Julia Blackhawk, a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska who died in the Minnesota bridge collapse, was laid to rest on Sunday on the reservation.
Blackhawk, 32, was remembered by family and friends as "nicest person you could ever meet," her uncle, John Blackhawk, said. "If she was a friend of yours, she was just a friend til the end kind of person," he said, KTIV News reported.
Blackhawk leaves behind two boys, ages 12 and 8. They learned of their mother's death on Friday from their grandmother, who is taking care of them in Massachusetts.
"She was such a dedicated person to her children," the boys' grandmother, Valerie Redanz, told The Cape Cod Times.
Blackhawk was training in Minneapolis to work in the beauty service industry. She hoped for a better life for her and her sons, Redanz said.
"It was supposed to be a new start for her, a new life," Redanz told The Boston Globe.
