Big cash prizes at Rocky Boy's rodeo and powwow

Cowboys, dancers and drum groups stand to walk away with $430,000 in cash prizes during a rodeo and powwow on the Rocky Boy's Reservation in Montana.

Over $250,000 in prizes will be handed out at the Eugene J. LaMere Sr. Memorial Rodeo. It's the largest non-sanctioned all Indian rodeo in the U.S. and Canada.

"There will be some pretty big checks written out this evening," Chippewa Cree Chairman John "Chance" Houle told The Great Falls Tribune. "There's probably $80,000 in team-roping events alone."

There's also plenty of action at the 43rd Annual Rocky Boy's Powwow, which starts today and runs through Sunday. More than $180,000 will be given away.
