After just six games with the Boston Red Sox, some fans are ready to put Jacoby Ellsbury, the first Navajo major league baseball player, in the hall of fame.
Ellsbury hit .375 in 16 at-bats and stole a base. But now that the player he replaced is back from an injury, he was sent back to his AAA team in Rhode Island. He might be back next season.
Ellsbury is a member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes of Arizona, which is made up of the Mohave, Chemehuevi, Hopi and Navajo tribes. He was born on the Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon. His mother is Navajo and his father works for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
