Navajo family keeps comedy fun and positive

For the Brown family of Gallup, New Mexico, comedy is a way of life.

Patriarch Dalbert Brown used to do standup in the 1980s but gave it up to focus on his family. "My wife said go to work and stop being a funny guy," he tells The Gallup Independent.

But a few years ago, daughter Brigadier Brown, 15, became interested in comedy and sought her father's help to enter a talent contest. Soon enough they started performing on stage together.

Then older daughter Delicate Brown, 24, who was emceeing the shows, decided to get involved. Then came youngest child Keith, 10, who joined the act. Noelle, 17, is the group's sound technician.

The family has opened shows for Navajo duo Ernest and James and has played in Florida, New York and Minnesota. They are getting ready to do a tour of the Navajo Nation this summer.
