California Legislature honors Pechanga Band

The California Legislature issued a proclamation in honor of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians to mark the 125th anniversary of the tribe's reservation.

The reservation was created by executive order in 1882. "Tribes elsewhere have come and gone, but we've managed to survive during that whole period," Chairman Marc Macarro said on the Senate floor on Thursday.

It was the first time lawmakers have recognized the reservation's anniversary.
