Two sites on the Stewarts Point Rancheria in northern California were placed on the list of 11 most endangered places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Regalia House and the Old Round House are sacred to the Kashia Pomo Tribe. But the two buildings have been repeatedly looted and the tribe lacks resources to protect them. The Round House is already near full deterioration and cannot be restored.
As part of its campaign, the National Trust wants Congress to increase funding for tribes under the National Historic Preservation Act.
Tribes receive an average of $45,000 if they seek preservation funds, the trust said.
