Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) told The Washington Post that he has been asked by the FBI to preserve records as part of a political corruption probe.
"They put me on notice to preserve some records," Stevens said in a brief interview with the paper. He didn't say what kinds of records he was asked to preserve but said his son, a former state lawmaker, is under investigation.
The probe has netted indictments against four current and former state lawmakers. They are alleged to have accepted bribes from executives of an energy company who have pleaded guilty and are cooperating with federal investigators.
Last August, the FBI raided the offices of several lawmakers, including then-Senate president Ben Stevens. Investigators have been asking about repairs done to a home owned by Ted Stevens. The work is linked to the energy company.
