Internet to the Hogan project starts digital TV station

The "Internet to the Hogan" project on the Navajo Nation broadcast its first digital television program last week.

Navajo Nation Council Delegate Leonard Tsosie, a former New Mexico lawmaker, sat down with several Navajo speakers in Ramah to talk about technology and tradition. "Why can't PBS's Big Bird learn Navajo?" Tsosie said, The Gallup Independent reported.

Tsosie has been leading efforts to bring the Internet to the reservation. Navajo Technical College and the University of California at San Diego are working to connect communities in New Mexico and Arizona to a high-speed network.

The next Navajo digital TV station will be located in Crownpoint, New Mexico.
