A church in northern California has halted construction in response to opposition from the Winnemum Wintu Tribe.
The tribe says the future site of Risen King Community Church used to be a village. Spiritual leader Caleen Sisk-Franco says tribal ancestors are buried there and says there are petroglyphs and salt rocks nearby.
The church halted work and said it will allow a Wintu monitor at the site. But the pastor said the tribe objected at the last minute and a planner said there aren't artifacts or burials there.
