A woman from the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana was sentenced to 30 years for murdering her 11-month-old son.
Danelle Ferguson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. She admitted shaking Andrew, who was one month shy of his first birthday, blaming it on her addiction to morphine.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Montana reached a plea agreement and recommended a sentence of up to 22 years. But U.S. District Court Judge Sam Haddon rejected the agreement, citing the callous and cruel nature of the crime.
