The annual Alaska Native Youth Olympics kicked off in Anchorage on Thursday.
Manuel Tumulak Jr. set the NYO record in the high kick event. He kicked a seal-skin ball 92 inches above the floor.
Tumulak said he it took him two years to work up the courage to try the kick. "It's knowing your body, trusting it, and being willing to push your limits," he told The Anchorage Daily News.
The event is being held at the Sullivan Arena. It is sponsored by the Cook Inlet Tribal Council.
