Two Native activists win environmental prize


Two Native activists are among the six winners of the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize for their work on environmental issues.

Sophia Rabliauskas, a member of the Poplar River First Nation of Manitoba, was selected for her efforts to protect the boreal forest. She helped her tribe develop a comprehensive land protection and management plan.

Julio Cusurichi Palacios, a member of the Shipibo Tribe in Peru, was selected for helping create a reservation for his people. He has spoken out against illegal logging and oil drilling.

The Goldman prize comes with a $125,000 award,
