A 17-year-old Indian boy was arrested Sunday for a fatal shooting on a bus in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Jerome Pablo Cross is accused of shooting Earl Freeman, 16, on a Metro Transit route downtown. But Cross' family questioned whether police have the right person, noting that the suspect was described as an African-American male of short to medium height. Cross' mother also said her son was at home shortly after the time of the shooting.
Cross is 6-foot-1 with long hair. Police said the person who gave the description of the African-American male was being misleading. Cameras on the bus captured images of Cross, police said.
The tribal heritage of the Cross family was not disclosed, though Cross is a common surname among Ojibwe in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
