Michael Daggett, a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut, died on Monday after crashing his car into a stone wall.
Daggett was a cousin of chairman Michael Thomas. He was a football standout who helped the Ledyard High School win a state championship in 1991.
Daggett served as the director of the tribe's utilities department. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
“Michael had an infectious smile and laugh supported by his own special sense of humor. We will all miss him immensely," Chairman Thomas said in a statement.
