Meetings planned to discuss cancer on reservations

The American Cancer Society and Northern Plains Comprehensive Cancer Control Program are planning public meetings on reservations in South Dakota.

Statistics show that Indians in the state die from cancer at rates higher than other populations. Poverty and limited access to health care are said to be contributing factors.

To address the issue, the two groups are planning meetings on the Sisseton-Wahpeton, Flandreau Santee and Yankton Sioux reservations in May.
