Indian man and partner refused room at hotel

An Indian man and his partner are considering legal action after they were refused a room at a hotel in South Carolina.

Darren Black Bear and Jason Pickel tried to check in to the Affordable Suites of America in Sumter. They were told they couldn't get a room because of their sexuality.

"She was not apologetic. She just said, 'We do not rent to gay people,'" Pickel told WLTX News.

The couple says they were shocked by their treatment by the hotel. When contacted, an employee told WLTX that "Our policy is we don’t rent to two people of the same sex if we only have one bed."

The hotel owner said the policy is meant to stop two single people, of any sexual orientation, from sharing the same bed.
