Umatilla woman honored by Washington college

Andrea Hall, a member of the Confederated Umatilla Tribes of Oregon, received a Women of Distinction award from Washington State University.

Hall was this year's student recipient. She entered WSU in 2004 after 10 years of working for her tribe. A mother of two, she expects to graduate in May a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Women’s Studies.

Her nominator wrote, “She consistently maintains a solid GPA and has shown a remarkable ability to balance the rigors of academic life, the responsibilities that come along with being a student leader, while maintaining her focus on achieving her own personal goals. These abilities, coupled with an ‘I can do it’ attitude and genuine compassion for Native people, are a great formula for leadership.”

Last year, the WSU Women's Resource Center honored Rebecca Miles, the chairwoman of the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho, as its Woman of the Year. This year, that honor went to Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire (D).
