The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota won't support a proposed water project unless the tribe's concerns are met, Chairman Marcus Wells Jr. said on Thursday.
Wells testified at a public hearing on the Fort Berthold Reservation. He said the Bureau of Reclamation, an agency of the Interior Department, and the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District haven't consulted the tribe about the Red River Valley Water Supply Project.
The project would draw water from the Missouri River to communities in the Red River Valley. Wells said the tribe's own water needs aren't being addressed [PDF: Testimony].
