Oneida Nation brings technology to tradition

The Oneida Nation of New York has turned to technology to preserve its storytelling tradition.

The tribe's Four Directions Media Inc. is putting together an animated feature based on "The Raccoon and the Crayfish," a story about the consequences of lying. The film will be completed later this month.

The tribe has spent more than $1 million on Four Directions, which includes the Indian Country Today newspaper, a talent agency and a recording studio. The multimedia studio that is producing the animated film is headed by Dale Rood, a tribal member.
