Study cites economic impact of Oklahoma tribes

A new study from an Oklahoma State University professor says tribes have created more jobs in the Shawnee area.

Tribes have contributed to jobs in the arts, entertainment, recreation, food service and hotel-motel services, according to the 2007 Economic Outlook for Shawnee. Gaming-related jobs went from just a dozen to more than 300 since 2004, said research economist Mark Sneed.

Tribes in the area include the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, which recently opened a new casino.
