Vernon Bellecourt being laid to rest at White Earth
American Indian Movement activist Vernon Bellecourt is being laid to rest on the White Earth Ojibwe Reservation in Minnesota today. Bellecourt was born and raised on the reservation. He will be buried in a traditional ceremony on what would have been his 76th birthday. Bellecourt died Saturday. He was the spokesperson for AIM during some if its biggest protests in the 1960s and 1970s. He later became active in promoting indigenous rights in the international community and in opposing Indian mascots. Get the Story:
