An Alaska Native village corporation filed suit against a Republican lawmaker who accused corporations of taking bribes.
Alaska Peninsula Corp. represents five Native villages. They say state Rep. Jay Ramras is trying to intimidate people with his bribery allegations.
The allegations involve a proposed copper and gold mine in Southwest Alaska. Ramras claims Northern Dynasty Mines Inc. is signing contracts with Native corporations in order to get them to support the project.
Alaska Peninsula Corp. sought a restraining order to prevent state troopers from appearing at a legislative hearing on the mine but the request was denied yesterday.
