Artman makes leadership changes at BIA

Fresh off the appointment of a new deputy, assistant secretary Carl Artman is making further leadership changes at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Effective this coming Monday, Jerry Gidner will be the director of the BIA. He is replacing Pat Ragsdale, who will be moving over to law enforcement.

Chris Chaney is leaving law enforcement to serve as deputy director for Indian Services. This is the job Gidner used to hold.

In other changes, Artman has appointed two counselors. One is Sequoyah Simermeyer, who used to work for the National Congress of American Indians, and the other is Andrea Lord, who is on detail from the National Indian Gaming Commission.

The new staff join Majel Russell, who was appointed as deputy assistant secretary by Artman in late August.
