Kiowa chairman loses wife, daughter in flooding

Billy Evans Horse, the chairman of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma, lost his wife, daughter and a niece in a flash flood early Sunday morning.

The Horse family was returning home after a powwow when the floods hit. Chairman Horse saw the vehicle carrying wife Dorita Horse, 77, daughter, Helen Horse, 34, and a niece, Rose Saddleblanket, 17, wash away in the water.

"We saw them go off the road and float away like a boat. We didn't see them after that," Horse told The Oklahoman.

The bodies of the three victims were found 17 hours later.
