Pascua Yaqui Tribe ousts chairwoman

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona has a new chairman after Herminia Frias, the first woman to lead the tribe, was ousted on Friday.

Frias faced 22 ethics charges and was sanctioned for six of them. Though an appeal to the tribal court is pending, some tribal council members decided to remove her from office..

"At this point, the tribe is just making up the rules as they go along," Frias told The Arizona Daily Star. "It's ugly, ugly cutthroat politics."

Peter Yucupicio was named chairman by the council.
