Former postal worked accused of burning artifacts

A former U.S. Postal Service worker was charged with theft of mail after he allegedly burned two sacred Haudenosaunee masks from the 1830s.

Donald G. Ring III, 36, allegedly burned a package to cover up damage to it. He apparently didn't know the package contained two sacred false face masks used in healing ceremonies.

The masks were sent to a collector in New York from England. The collector planned to repatriate the items to the Haudenosaunee.
