Pine Ridge drug traffickers appeal convictions

Five people convicted for dealing drugs on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota have filed appeals.

Geraldine Blue Bird, the alleged ring leader, and four others went to trial on various drug and weapons charges. They were convicted of selling cocaine on the reservation.

All five defendants have been sentenced. They are challenging how their sentences were calculated.

At least 15 others have pleaded guilty for their role in the drug ring. Several more are still in the court system.
