A 19-year-old member of the Quinault Nation of Washington was charged in federal court on Monday with involuntary manslaughter for a car accident that claimed the lives of two teens.
Sela Kalama, a former Miss Quinault Nation, was driving a car early Sunday morning when it veered off a road on the Lower Elwha Klallam Reservation and plunged into the river. Two teens -- Vanna Francis, 17, a member of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, and Ronnie Scroggins, 15, a member of the Makah Nation -- died.
Kalama and the three other teens in the car were able to get out. It's not clear how or why the accident happened.
