Menominee Nation to update off-reservation casino plans

The Obama administration has asked the Menominee Nation of Wisconsin to update its land-into-trust application for an off-reservation casino.

As part of a settlement, the Bureau of Indian Affairs agreed to take another look at the casino. Part of the process allows the tribe to submit more information before a final decision is made.

"We hope to have a decision early next year," Chairman Randal Chevalier told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The tribe has been meeting with members of Congress to discuss the project. And a meeting with Gov. Scott Walker (R), who will have veto authority over the casino, will take place on the reservation next week, The Kenosha News reported.
