Oneida Nation launches ad campaign against off-reservation casino

The Oneida Nation of New York is running a television ad campaign that targets the off-reservation casino proposed by the Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican Indians of Wisconsin.

The ad, titled "Shameful," claims Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York) “engaged in secret deal making" and helped the Stockbridge Munsee Band with its plan for the casino in the Castkills. “Something’s really wrong when the profits from this casino go back to Wisconsin,” the ad states.

The Stockbridge Munsee Band signed a Class III gaming compact that has been sent to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for review. The deadline for an answer is February 19.

The Stockbridge Munsee Band also signed a separate settlement that purports to end its land claim in New York. The tribe says the deal does not require Congressional approval.
