The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut faces a big test tomorrow for its proposed commercial casino in western Massachusetts.

The tribe plans to spend $1 billion on the Mohegan Sun Palmer. As part of the process, voters in Palmer must approve the project.

"I think we've been really committed to running a great campaign to make sure that everybody in Palmer has all the facts and everything they need to do to make a decision to allow Palmer to receive a once-in-a-lifetime chance for economic transformation," Mitchell G. Etess, the CEO of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, told The Harford Courant.

If voters approve, the tribe will compete for the western region against MGM Resorts International. Voters in Springfield backed that project in July.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will make the final decision on the license in early 2014.
