The Poarch Band of Creek Indians will be opening the biggest casino in Alabama on December 17.

The tribe has spent $250 million on the new Wind Creek Wetumpka. The facility features an 85,000-square-foot gaming floor with 2,520 electronic machines, five restaurants and a 20-story, 283-room hotel that will open in early 2014.

"We are thrilled that the casino and restaurants will open on December 17th," property manager Cody Williamson said in a press release. "The construction was a monumental effort. It took more than 800 workers putting in a total of 1.4 million hours to build the structure we see here today. We used 2,500 tons of steel and more than 18,000 cubic yards of concrete alone in the construction. The scale of Wind Creek Wetumpka and the scope of its economic impact are considerable."

The tribe offered members of the media a tour of the ongoing work at the casino.
