The Eastern Band of Cherokee
Indians in North Carolina broke ground on a second gaming facility on the reservation.
The $110 million project features a casino with 60,000 square feet of gaming space and a 300-room hotel. It's located near the town of Murphy in Cherokee County.
"This is an ambitious project, but we are confident that it will be a success – for our customers, our tribe and for the surrounding community, "
Chief Michell Hicks said in a press release.
Hicks said the tribe borrowed $82 million for the project, The Cherokee One Feather reported.
