Gaming interests, including tribes and non-Indian companies, have spent $59 million in New York since 2005, The New York Times reports.
The Oneida Nation spent the most -- $3.8 million. The Seneca Nation wasn't far behind, with $3.2 million.
The recently recognized Shinnecock Nation spent $1.9 million. The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe spent a comparably small sum -- $407,000.
Non-Indian gaming interests spent the most money by far. The racetrack industry spent $17.5 million since 2005 while a few gaming companies spent around $6 million.
Voters are being asked to approve a referendum [PDF:
Proposal 1] that authorizes non-Indian casinos outside of tribal exclusivity zones.
