Newspaper wonders why North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) won't support a casino for the Catawba Nation, which promises 4,000 new jobs in the state:
It's fitting that polls open just days after Gov. McCrory visited Cleveland County, touting a manufacturing expansion that will bring nearly 200 new jobs to our borders.

His arrival came mere weeks after he publicly denounced plans to bring a Catawba Indian Nation resort and casino to Cleveland County, which would create 4,000 full-time jobs.

Thankfully, the decision isn't the governor's to make. But for a governor that has hung his hat on job creation, we don't understand his position.

Three hundred and eighty new positions, statewide. Essentially a drop in the bucket when you consider the magnitude of the Catawba Indian Nation project.

Harrah's Cherokee has made it clear they don't want the competition of another Native American resort and casino in the state, especially so close to a major interstate. Their fundraising efforts for McCrory have been well documented. And the fact Harrah's will host next year's N.C. GOP convention speaks volumes.
