The Catawba Nation of South Carolina is finalizing a lease for a high-stakes bingo hall.

The tribe is working with York County on the facility. The state has issued a license to offer prizes up to $100,000, The Rock Hill Herald reported.

“Since I was elected, I have had the chance to talk to many residents of York County," Chief Bill Harris told the paper in a statement. "The thing that I get asked over and over is whether the tribe is going to bring back Catawba Bingo. We are excited to finally say ‘yes.’”

The tribe reached a land claim settlement in 1993. The law barred the tribe from following the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act but the tribe can follow state gaming laws.
