The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut announced a $50 million expansion of its gaming facility.
The tribe will be adding "The Downtown District" to the Mohegan Sun. Plans include a 14-screen movie theater, a bowling alley, a food pavilion and high-end retail.
"As the owners and operators of Mohegan Sun, the Tribal Council is extremely excited about bringing this new development to our reservation, " Chairman Bruce "Two Dogs" Bozsum said in a press release. "In tune with the original vision of Chief Ralph Sturges when he conceived of Mohegan Sun, it will continue our mission to serve as a job builder for the residents of our region, and bring social improvements to the community at large."
The project is the first major expansion at the casino since 2008, The Norwich Bulletin reported.
It's due to open in early 2015.
