After weeks of delays, the Class III gaming compact for the North Fork Rancheria of
Mono Indians in California is due for a vote this week, Capitol Weekly reports.
The compact authorizes an off-reservation casino for the tribe at a site about 38 miles from its headquarters.
“Ratification of our compact is going to bring jobs to the area and build up the economy,” Chairwoman Elaine Bethel Fink told Capitol Weekly.
The state Senate could vote Thursday, Capitol Weekly said. The compact has already been ratified by the Assembly so passage would send the agreement to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for final review.
Tribes with existing casinos have lobbied against the compact.
