The city council in Medford, Oregon, set aside a little more than $132,000 to fight an off-reservation casino proposed by the Coquille Tribe.
The money will be used for legal counsel. The city has already spent $25,000 on the matter but some believe the costs will rise.
"I wouldn't be surprised if legal fees hit $300,000 to $500,000," council member Dick Gordon said at a council meeting, The Medford Mail Tribune reported. "I see this is a long, protracted process."
The tribe has submitted a land-into-trust application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for a 2.42-acre site in Medford.
The land will be used for a Class II gaming facility.
