The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is still interested in pursing a commercial casino in New York, a top gaming executive said.

The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority announced a $600 million casino in the Catskills two years ago. The plan "is in great shape to proceed," CEO Mitchell Etess told The New London Day.

The project depends on voter approval of more non-Indian gaming in New York. If that happens, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation also plans to pursue a casino in the Catskills, at a site just a few miles from the Mohegan site.

The two tribes operate casinos on their reservations just a few miles apart in Connecticut.
