The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut is looking to bid on a commercial casino in New York, The Middletown Times Herald-Record reports.

The tribe is close to a deal for a 500-acre site in the Catskills, the paper said. The Catskills is about a 90-minute drive north of New York City.

"We are extremely interested in developing a destination resort casino in the Catskills and the 500-acre Muss site at Grossinger's is perfectly situated to accomplish that goal," Foxwoods Resort Casino CEO Scott Butera told the paper.

The plan depends on voter authorization of more non-Indian gaming in the state. The issue could be placed on the November ballot.

The tribe is part of a partnership to bid on a commercial casino in Massachusetts.
