Supervisors in Mendocino County, California, delayed action on a casino agreement with the Pinoleville Pomo Nation.

The proposed memorandum of understanding calls for the tribe to address the off-reservation impacts of its casino. According to The Ukiah Daily Journal , the tribe has agreed to pay $150,000 annually for law enforcement services, $200,000 annually for fire services, $30,000 every three years for the sheriff, plus a one-time fee of $50,000 for emergency fire response equipment.

The tribe will also make payments in lieu of taxes. The agreement calls for $100,000 for the first year of casino operation, $200,000 for years two and three, $250,000 for years four to seven and $400,000 annually starting in the eighth year, with increases tied to the Consumer Price Index, the Journal said.

The tribe has agreed to pay for traffic improvements. The county delayed action on the memorandum of understanding to address concerns raised by Caltrans, the state transportation agency.
