Shinnecock Nation letter seeks investigation of casino deal

A letter that was sent to members of the Shinnecock Nation of New York calls for an investigation into a failed casino deal.

The letter was written by Lance Gumbs and Gordell Wright. They claim to be rightful trustees of the tribe even though they were removed in a dispute vote last October, The Southampton Press reported.

Gumbs and Wright say Chairman Randy King, who was not removed, and former trustee Fred Bess negotiated away the tribe's rights for a casino in New York City. The tribe reportedly offered the city $100 million to buy land for the project.

The tribe is holding elections next week. Gumbs and Wright are seeking office but King and Bess are not, the Press reported.
