The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will meet March 21 to discuss a casino in the southeastern region of the state.

H.3702, the state's gaming law, sets aside the casino for "a federally recognized tribe." The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is pursuing the casino but has been dealt with setbacks so the commission will consider what to do next.

"It was clear (the Legislature) wanted the tribe to have a clear shot at this for reasons, not just for the tribe, but in the best interest of Southeastern Mass. in the long run," Stephen Crosby, the chairman of the commission, told The Cape Cod Times. "It's also clear they didn't want to wait so long that Southeastern Mass. falls out of bed and doesn't get the benefits for years down the road."
