The Shinnecock Nation and its gaming partner offered $100 million to buy land from New York City but Mayor Michael Bloomberg rejected the proposal.

The tribe and Gateway Casino Resorts submitted the proposal back in September 2011. The $100 million was for 61.4 acres of city-owned land in Willets Point, Queens, The New York Times reported.

The tribe gained federal recognition in August 2010 and wants to build up to three casinos in New York.
