Editorial: Welcome Twenty-Nine Palms Band casino to region

More on: twenty nine palms

"Twentynine Palms will get some new neighbors when the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians constructs what it calls a boutique casino on its land on Baseline Road and Adobe Road here. If all goes as planned, the 30,000-square-foot casino should be up and running by the end of the year.

Even before it opens, the casino will benefit the community, as tribal officials have pledged to make an effort to hire local contractors to build what they are going to call Tortoise Rock Casino.

After it opens, tribal officials said, the casino could add as many as 100 jobs to the local economy in addition to drawing people from across the Basin to our little corner of paradise."
