A group of protesters called on the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama to stop a casino expansion project.

The tribe is spending $246 million on a new Wind Creek Wetumpka. Opponents say the casino will destroy the Hickory Ground, a sacred and historic Creek site.

“We just want to return the site back to nature,” Steve Musgrove, one of the organizers of the protest, told The Montgomery Advertiser.

The tribe has unearthed and reburied remains that were found at the site.
