Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada), the Senate majority leader, tried to move a bill that would help tribes in Texas open gaming facilities.

Reid tried to "hotline" the bill on December 18, 2012, Politico reports. Republicans objected and the measure never went further.

The bill would have lifted a gaming prohibition for the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe and the Tigua Tribe. A provision in the law that restored the tribes to federal recognition subjects them to state gaming laws.

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe was behind the effort, Politico reports. The tribe hired Meyers & Associates to push the bill.

Both tribes operated casinos until the state went to court to shut them down.
