The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut will submit an application today for a commercial casino in western Massachusetts.

The tribe is partnering with Brigade Capital Management, an investment group based in New York, for the casino. Tuesday is the deadline to submit a bid and pay the non-refundable $400,000 fee.

“We really know what the people in this part of the country need and want,” Mitchell Etess, the chief executive of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, told The Boston Globe. “We know how to get the most for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts out of this project. We know we’re going to succeed.”

The western Massachusetts casino has attracted the most interest in the state. In addition to the Mohegans, the Seminole Tribe of Florida is competing with Hard Rock International.

Two non-Indian gaming companies -- MGM Resorts and Penn National Gaming -- also want the casino in western Massachusetts.
