The Quapaw Tribe donated $40,000 worth of canned goods to five food banks in Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.

The donation was facilitated by the Downstream Casino Resort. Recipients included the Inter-Tribal Council Food Distribution Center.

“This donation means our clients will have extra food for the holidays and extra food in coming times. We needed it,” Marilyn Mayfield, the center's director, told The Miami News-Record.

The tribe hopes its donation will spur others to act.
